ANOTHER Writer makes a fool of himself...

Hey Folks,

Pls read this link before you read my response below: http://www.nigeriafilms.com/news/15780/3/musician-banky-w-makes-a-fool-of-himself.html

This story is almost entirely false. I will never understand why some press people take it upon themselves to unfairly slander and bring down the reputation that someone has worked extremely hard to build. Ladies and gentlemen, PLEASE do not believe everything you read. With this kind of "reporting", it's quite clear that some writers and publications are not worth the paper/website space they use.

This show was organized by Pilot NewsPapers, in December 2011 (not November). The "headliners" were the Legendary Bongus Ikwue, Omawumi, and myself.. as well as a couple of other acts. What actually happened, was that once we saw Mr Ikwue on the bill, I insisted and pleaded (along with Omawumi's Manager Mr Sunday Aare) with the Organizers that in no way will I agree for him to open for us. In my opinion, he was too much of a legend, and it would not be right for him NOT to close the show. Omawumi, myself and our respective bands made our way down to the backstage area to get ready to perform. It was then that it was told to us, that a lot of the dignitaries in the audience would soon have to leave to tend to other matters... in which case, it was important and only fair, that we let Mr Ikwue perform first, so that the dignitaries present, including Mr Vice President, and many of the Governors, and their entourages, would see him perform before they left.

In all honesty, it was BECAUSE Mr Ikwue IS such a legend, and someone we have the utmost respect, love and admiration for, that we insisted on performing FIRST. When it was revealed that a huge number of the most significant/important Guests were going to leave early, we humbly and rightfully stepped down for Mr Ikwue to perform for the full house. Shortly afterwards, a lot of the dignitaries did leave as we had been told; but as professionals, Omawumi and I still performed for those that did not have to leave so early. Infact, Omawumi was the last performer of the night. These facts will be backed up 100% by Omawumi, her manager Mr. Sunday Are, Mr. Bongus Ikwue, and the Organizers of the show, Pilot Newspapers headed by Mr. Daniel Sanni; a man that was extremely kind and courteous to all of us, and who we are all grateful to. I also strongly believe that it doesn’t matter where you are on the bill of a show; wherever you’re put, you should perform like you’re headlining; whether it’s for 5 people or 5 million people.

I'm honestly sick and tired of people being falsely represented by reporters who are too lazy to look for a real story; if this is the best you can do, please be careful of the targets you pick. I'm not the one. I will now proceed to sue this website, the writer, and everyone involved with propagating such nonsense until they delete this poor excuse for an article and post a full apology, or until a court of Law closes this business down; And for the rest of us... don’t believe everything you read. It’s sad that people already assumed this article was true and started posting all kinds of negative comments... what if I never saw it and/or didn’t have the chance to defend myself against allegations that are, infact, 100% false? To make matters worse, other websites (like 247Nigerianewsupdate.com, sturvs.com and other blogs) have rushed to further propagate this rubbish.

Dear Mr. Akinnagbe Akintomide & NigeriaFilms.com ... I will continue to try and do the best I can for myself, my company, and my country regardless of how much you try to spoil my name. I truly, TRULY, have much bigger fish to fry. A word should be enough for the wise. It’s either that or a lawsuit. The choice is yours.

Sincerely,
- Banky W.

PS: I do appreciate the comments, but if it's not asking too much, I'd appreciate comments on the sites that posted the original article; some of the people there may not know that my blog exists, and so may never see my response. Well.. that is.. unless I go through with my lawsuit and then it makes the news everywhere.

Ha! No surprises there. The definition of Nigerianfilms.com = a conglomerate of news hungry journalist that create their own version of 'news' by typing up the first thing they imagine.

The fact that people still read this ridiculous site of theirs is beyond me. This is not the first or second time that I am against one of their useless sensationalized 'news' and I am guessing it won't be the last time.

This happens when people no longer have work ***sigh***

But then, lazy reporters should be taught lessons and discouraged from making journalism seem like a blackhole for all that's good and bringing disrepute to competent journalists!

It is shameful that majority of our online news blogs have taken it upon themselves to disseminate unfounded information and furthermore tarnish the image(s) of celebs who make us happy. I sincerely think they should all be sued for what they are worth. It is a necessary action. That way, we will only have credible and creditable online news sources, rather than hungry and malicious rumour peddlers.sefini!!!!

i dont know Banky personally but i follow him on twitter; i think i can actually guess what he can/can't do. He is one of the few niger artist that dont take what he's got or where he's @ at the minute for granted.

Banky keep doing you joor and let your haters live to watch you blow.

wether its a professional journalist or a blogger responsible for the story. i support suing the whole blog. its totally irresponsible to publish defamatory tings especially when it is not even in the interest of the public. suing for defamation over internet published content can be tricky but you really should sue. its high time someone teaches these nigerian journalists/bloggers a lesson or tow. word of advise tho. if u want to win, and u want quick and comprehensive proceedings, file in the uk. it is the libel litigation capital of the world plus they really come down hard on cyber defamation. and u can sue for every time someone read the article cos the amount of times a page is opened is what is considered in calulating online publication in the uk. Good luck.

Banky, sorry for that. Page1 Magazine will let Nigerians know the Truth.

Banky W, truth is, many of us didn't see it (like its breaking news to me now) and I am almost certain that they wanted a cheap publicity and you have given it to them.

Even if the story was true(which by your account is false) what kind of silly, stupid and annoying headline was that "How Banky W made a Fool of Himself?"

If its worth anything, just ignore them and go ahead and fry your bigger fish.

And on behalf of all new media writers, I apologise for the ineptitude of some of us, tarnishing the image of celebs isn't what we are about.

I think the earlier the better we start litigation in this country, the bettre for us. Some journalists are damn lazy and won't do proper research before doing a story. Even if you get a wind of a gist you have to cross-examine and find out from people involved to get the fact.
Just this morning I hear Chris Brown is dead and have to double-check while some people are already spreading the rumour.
I will only advice Mr Banky to go ahead and demand apology from the said website and if theyre not forthcoming he should go to court

Hey, for starters, am very impressed by your write up of what actually transpired. Very informative and succinct. The writer mus be commended. If you're the author, you must be an exception in the Nigerian contest of musicians. Having said that, dont let what the haters write bother you as long as you know what actually happened. My advise is this, dont drag it out with them, let it go and just keep doing your thing.

So, when you blocked me on twitter cause you love to read praises about you and nothing else.
Your problem Banky is that YOU love psychophants and if only that, that s your biggest flaw.
We wouldnt have heard about this if YOU had not drawn our attention to it...
That said, you get time sha..
Too much time on your hands I'd say..
Learn to live a little please..
Moving on now..

Banky W said...

@2cute4u:

On the contrary... I don't "only love psycophants" and I don't only "love to read praises about me and nothing else".

It couldn't be further from the truth.

I'm infact my own harshest critic, and I do like constructive criticism, with constructive being the keyword. I don't like unnecessarily rude/insulting comments. I feel like I try to be polite and I expect people to treat me the same way (unless when it's dished to me and I sometimes dish it right back).

If I blocked u on twitter, then you probably said something that was outright rude. Noone wants to come online and see insults being hurled at them. I'm sorry, but it's my twitter account, and I reserve the right to do what I want with it.

As far as the post is concerned, I wrote it because I probably care too much (and that's my weakness). I came online and saw a bunch of tweets linking to 3 or 4 different sites about this story that was completely untrue... and I scrolled down and saw 40-50 comments of people who believed the nonsense and were now hurling insults at me.

I guess the right thing would have been to ignore it and not care, but I guess this is me. Same reason I saw your comment and tried to reply; when I feel something isn't quite right, I tend to want to reply, or speak up, or something. It's who I am and I can't apologize for that.

Truth is, I probably gave the story more shine than it was going to get, and maybe the right thing to do was to pretend it didn't exist. But the 4 or so sites that carried it, and the comments that came under it really, truly bothered me; not because they didn't "LOVE me", but because they were untrue.

Haven read all comments,i guess it boils down to being a champion in this unspoken battle for popularity called Nigeria. People who are dead get spoken of,and unborn children are being planned for so what in the heavens are we talking about?.

Anyways,i guess, the response of B only shows that he is human afterall. I mean, we all have this immaculate, unique, unquestionable and superb ideology about our celebs and stars and we try to neglect the fact that they are humans like us. So to this i say thumps up B for speaking ur mind!.

But on the other hand maybe, just maybe you should have ignored the libel and slander and rather face your 'big fish' there are better things and issues to face so, if certain persons do not like us,who says we have to force them to.

Hence the biblical allusion by a wise man that when a fool talks,a wise man should not responds less people think they are the same...and on the other hand, when a fool talks,a wise man should reply less people think he is a fool afterall too.

In all,i commend all those who have been the direct target of notice me's' and certain dignity'less' news people. Continue to do your thing B

When all has been said n done,d best of us all might not take things the way B has done here. Infact,d most perfect of us-if there's anything like that-would have gone out of line to show his/her displeasure. Even psychologically, what even self-meaning human being hates the most is negative criticism.i guess it boils down to being a champion in this unspoken battle for popularity called Nigeria. People who are dead get spoken of,and unborn children are being planned for so what in the heavens are we talking about?.

I mean, we all have this immaculate, unique, unquestionable and superb ideology about our celebs and stars and we try to neglect the fact that they are humans like us. So to this i say thumps up B for speaking ur mind!. You have actually handled this wisely enough without creating unecessary attention. I guess its time we all saw ourselves as humans with weaknesses and fears than a perfection that should be left for the world of form-as the philosopher would say.

But on the other hand maybe, just maybe you should have ignored the libel and slander and rather face your 'big fish' there are better things and issues to face so, if certain persons do not like us,who says we have to force them to.

In all,i commend all those who have been the direct target of notice me's' and certain dignity'less' news people. However,i rem a folk tale my granny once told me abt d tortoise. In summary,he was grandly purnished by his father-in-law for stealing from the latter that people insulted him and called him names. Ironically, d table was turned when d same people defended d tortoise becos his purnishment was getting far too inhuman. So just continue to do your thing B

Hey Banky, this kind of treatment seems to come with the territory. I know you can handle it and I'm sure you'll agree that there are so many artists facing such, as the media desperately try to promote a headliner. Don't bother exerting your energy on a lawsuit, instead, concentrate on building on your current success and that of EME. The fans know the truth deep down - that's what matters. Peace.
